After bland western prequels to his flagship drama “Yellowstone,” producer Taylor Sheridan finds marginally more fertile territory in “Lawmen: Bass Reeves,” a series that will devote each season to a different frontier lawman or outlaw. Eventually, Bass escapes, hiding out during the remaining days of the Civil War before settling down and trying his hand at farming. Dennis Quaid in "Lawmen: Bass Reeves." In that context, “Bass Reeves” kicks off what Paramount clearly hopes will be an ongoing franchise with a solid if unspectacular opening salvo, without fully doing justice to its intriguing subject. “Lawmen: Bass Reeves” premieres November 5 on Paramount+.

"The Family Stallone", which premieres on Paramount+ this week, features scenes of Stallone on set filming television series "Tulsa King" as well as at home with his family. The family said the idea for the show stemmed from Sistine and Sophia's podcast "Unwaxed". Asked about comparisons to hit show "The Kardashians", Stallone said: "I think the Kardashians were brilliant in what they did and very original, we're taking a different tack. That's who they are, we are who we are and that's what I think gives the audience a variety."

CNN —“Yellowstone” is one of those mysteries of the TV business, a series that generates major ratings but like the late comic Rodney Dangerfield, doesn’t always get much respect. Yet the new season of the Paramount Network series nevertheless reaches for what feels like a bit more relevance by making a sharper turn into politics, to go with all of the soapy doings around John Dutton, the character played by Kevin Costner, and his sprawling ranch. There are several fictions perpetrated by the vaguely comic “Tulsa King.” One suggests that there are areas of this country so innocent and untouched by evildoers that an aging mob capo could come in and transform the place, virtually overnight, into Vito Corleone’s Little Italy circa 1920. Another suggests that said gangster, Dwight Manfredi ( Sylvester Stallone ), could be mistaken by an extremely attractive local woman ( Andrea Savage ) for a “hard 55” rather than his actual 75 years of age. It’s something that the series has to deal with eventually and does quickly, if not mercifully.

Enter “Tulsa King,” a slim vehicle for Sylvester Stallone that’s a little too overtly designed as a mobster fish out of water. “There’s nothing left for you here,” says the new boss (“The Wire’s” Domenick Lombardozzi), noting, “We can’t just rewind the clock.”Conceptually, though, that’s exactly what “Tulsa King” does, or at least tries to do, exiling Dwight to the dreary confines of Oklahoma. “Tulsa King” turns out to be a rather odd mix of attributes, relying almost entirely on Stallone’s movie-star charisma as the show alternates between sitcom conventions and R-rated “The Sopranos”-flecked flourishes. In that sense, “Tulsa King” suggests maybe you can rewind the clock, just a little, even if you’re gonna fly a little bit lower now. “Tulsa King” premieres November 13 on Paramount+.
